This book and its discourse on free will, or our lack thereof, reminded me of those things I regret doing and yet still do. Between reading these two books, I read another book, something I had loved, but not done in a very large no time and I quit drinking alcohol to numb my pain or celebrate an event. Not that I am an alcoholic, but I didn’t like the control this substance had over me. Will I have a drink again in the future? I’m sure I will, but with the realization that it can easily become an unwanted habit again and therefore, I must be diligent. This book reminded me also of those other habits of mine that I don’t like, but have avoided looking at until now.Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed the second of the Wayfarer series and would recommend the book to those that have a curiosity about what drives them. I took one star away, only because I believed there was still the possibility of going into a bit greater depth while still staying consistent to concise and manageable reading format.

So in this chapter of the book Hugh discusses free will. I didn't find this section to be as engaging as the previous or as the following chapter. It's still good information, and sort of essential to read for the parts to come, but it just wasn't as fun as the others.
Deep thoughts
More repetitive and didn't have me convinced with his free will theory. Left out a lot that could have been included in a discussion on free will and had a narrow idea of it in the long run. The story of his travels was great though
Worthwhile art will provoke conversation with your inner muse as will good writing. Hugh Howey's adventure cajoles you into your own inner adventure. How can you not like that? Thoughtful and provoking. I really like his work.

Maybe because it's 3am and I needed something to calm my anxiety, reading this has helped. Your description of the island is a beautiful analog for life. There is good and bad in every situation but it's our ability to realize our environment that allows us to choose our response.
As always Hugh provides a thought provoking fun ride. I generally don't enjoy self help type books...so I was skeptical. What's this author, no matter how much I enjoy his fiction, going to tell me about life? Turns out a lot, somehow making it feel like him and I are having a fun discussion...maybe on an island somewhere...
